PORTLAND, Ore.| Warner Pacific fell short in their bid for a comeback win against Corban on Saturday, falling to the Warriors 52-44.
The Knights (1-17, 1-12) fought hard to erase deficits multiple times throughout the game. Corban (10-9, 7-6) went on an 11-1 run to open up the game. After regrouping during a timeout, the Knights settled in and brought down the deficit to four by the end of the first quarter.
A bucket from
McKeeley Tonkin and two consecutive 3 pointers from
Paityn Rhode early in the second quarter cut Corban's lead to just one. The Knights couldn't capitalize, however, and the Warriors entered halftime up by 10.
Corban held on to their momentum coming out of the half and were able to extend their lead to a game-high of 14 in the third quarter.
The Knights outscored the Warriors and held Corban scoreless from the field in the fourth quarter.
Alexa Mee led the way offensively for the Knights in the final frame and reduced the deficit to 6. The comeback efforts fell just short, however, and Corban came away with the 52-44 victory.
Emily Brown led the Knights with 12 points and 6 rebounds.
McKeeley Tonkin also had 10 points and 5 rebounds.
The loss puts the Knights at 1-17 on the season. Warner Pacific women's basketball is back in action on Jan. 27 when they travel to take on Southern Oregon.
