Warner Pacific is now 2-0 in conference play after a great effort by the team. In a game that saw 7 lead changes, the Lady Knights kept the course and secured a 53-49 result. Everybody was involved tonight as the Warner bench outscored the Bushnell bench 29-4 and was a huge part of the success.
The first quarter was closely contested, Emily Brown stood out with 4 points and 4 rebounds before getting in foul trouble early. In the second quarter the Knights had to respond time after time as Bushnell proved to be a formidable opponent. McKeely Tonkin was a large part of that, nailing a 3 pointer off the glass and providing a no-look assist in back-to-back plays gave the Knights enough momentum to go into halftime only down 2.
After halftime ended the Knights came out firing, on offense and defense. They scored 5 more points than Bushnell in the quarter and set themselves up to close the game out in the fourth. And that they did, nailing back-to-back 3 pointers and continuing to push the score, the Knights found themselves up 12 with 7 minutes to play. Bushnell tried to mount a comeback but clutch free throw shooting from Larsa Guzman and McKeely Tonkin made sure the Knights would secure the win 53-49.
Guzman came off the bench to score a team high 11 points, while Tonkin and Tierra Hicks chipped in with 10 each. Alexa Mae was a huge presence off the bench as well, grabbing a team high 10 rebounds en route to victory.
Looking toward tomorrow, Head Coach Jimmy Smith said, "If we do a good job rebounding and a good job getting stops, were a good enough team (to where) if we hold a team to 50, we are going to have success".
The blueprint has been laid and the castle continues to be built, the Lady Knights are in action again tomorrow, Saturday December 2nd here at CC Perry gym at 3 PM.
