Klamath Falls, Ore.-
The Knights struggled to get much going today in Klamath Falls against the Owls of Oregon Tech losing both games of the doubleheader by final scores of 15-2 and 14-2 respectfully. The Knights only put together 9 hits combined for the day with 3 of them coming from the bat of
Ashley Hawkins.
Game 1 -Â Warner 2 Oregon Tech 15
The game started with
Ashley Hawkins doubling to left center with 1 out and nobody on. Unfortunately she was not brought in but she did advance to third on a fielders choice when
Sammie Brauckmiller grounded out to second. The Owls started scoring right away with Zoe Allen scoring on a sacrifice fly hit by Jayce Seavert.
In the second the only hit for the Knights came from
Jovita Laloulu between the shortstop and third-baseman. The Owls scored three runs in the home end of the 2nd on a double by Addison Kachnik scoring Mckenzie Staub and a big fly blast from Nita Cook scoring Kachnik and herself.
Ashley Hawkins picked up her 2nd hit of the day in the 3rd inning but unfortunately no other action insued in the frame. The Owls scored 4 more runs in the 3rd with RBI's by Puakea Milbourne and Kckenzie Staub. The other two runs in the inning were unearned due to a throwing error and a passed ball.
The top of the 4th inning started with a bang for the Knights on a solo shot from
Carrigan Foster to the deep part of the ballpark in center field. They weren't able to use that momentum to string together more hits and they went down quietly from there. The Owls really flexed their muscle scoring 7 in the home half of the 4th inning highlighted by a grand slam by Senior Maggie Buckholz to left center field. Before that, the Owls scored on a hit by pitch with the bases loaded bringing in a run. The only other hit in the inning was a double by Kachnik scoring two more for her 3rd RBI of the day.
The Knights scored their 2nd and final run in the 5th inning when
Marin Bliss grounded out to second with the bases loaded scoring
Kassidie Bukoski who singled to lead off the inning. The game ended after the top of the fifth inning due to the 8 run lead rule through five innings.
Game 2 - Warner 2 Oregon Tech 14
The Knights weren't able to get anything done in the top half of the 1st inning but the Owls were able to score 9 runs in the 1st inning. They batted through their order almost twice as 13 Owls batted in the inning. Malia Mick, Maggie Buckholz, Jensen Becker, Addison Kachnik, Zoey Allen, and Jayce Seavert gathered RBI's in the inning. Mick actually had two hits that brought in runs in the inning.
The Knights went quietly in the 2nd but the Owls put one more on the board on an Kachnik single to right field scoring Jensen Becker.
Warner wasn't able to score in the 3rd inning but they did get a base hit off the bat of
Jordyn Rosario. The Owls had their worst inning of the game only scoring one run on a double to left by Maggie Buckholz scoring Jayce Seavert.
The Owls scored three more runs in the 4th inning which made it due or die time for the Knights in the top of the fifth inning to try and avoid another five inning game. The Knights were able to get a rally going when
Jessie Ramirez singled and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. She then advanced to third on a fielders choice to second hit by
Morgan Docker.
Christina Barrett reached on a fielders choice with the out being applied at second base scoring Ramirez on an unearned run for the Knights first run of the game.
Ashley Hawkins then singled to short bringing in
Marin Bliss who walked earlier in the inning. Unfortunately, the rally ended there and the game ended with the Owls coming out on top once again.
The Knights will attempt to right the ship tomorrow when they take on the same Oregon Tech Owls at 11am and 1pm in the last two games of the series.
