Stellar Pitching For the Knights as They Lose Two

Milwaukee, Ore-

The Knights (3-26, 3-20) lost both games today versus the Beacons of Bushnell University (10-27, 7-15) despite great pitching by Abby Carlson and Carrigan Foster.

Game One
Warner Pacific lost game one to Bushnell University 2-0 despite seven very fine innings pitched by Abby Carlson. She gave up just the two runs and struck out five. She was mixing up her pitches and peppering the corners all day. On the offensive side, the Knights had three hits and struck out seven times. Sammie Brauckmiller had two hits on the day. A sweet single in the first and had a infield base hit to second in the fourth inning. Carrigan Foster was the other Knight to check in with a hit smashing a double into the right-center gap in the second inning.

The game was a classic pitcher's duel with the Beacons unfortunately being the ones to push two runs across. The Beacons scored their first run in the second on a double hit by Bryana Yoshida and scored their second in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Madison Steelman.

Ashley Hawkins had a heck of a game at shortstop. She made two of the best plays we'll see all year. The first was in the fourth inning when she ranged to her right to snag the ball and then threw it from her knees to Emma Foster at first to get the out. The second came in the sixth inning when she ranged quickly to her left behind the bag at second and in the same motion, threw the ball across her body with her momentum going towards right field and got the runner out at first. You won't see two better plays by a shortstop in any level of softball/baseball.

Game Two
The Knights lost game two by a score of 5-3 behind excellent pitching by Carrigan Foster. She had the Beacons swinging at air all day. She had 11 strikeouts. Unofficially, nine of those strikeouts came on swings. The scouting report on Foster is that she has a lot of movement to her pitches and man was that true today. The Beacons for most of the game just couldn't connect on her pitches.

Warner had seven hits in the game with Ashley Hawkins leading the way with two. They scored their fist two runs on two walks with the bases loaded. They scored their third on a Sammie Brauckmiller single up the middle driving in Hawkins from second.

The Beacons tied the game and ultimately took the lead in the seventh inning when they scored three runs to make the score 5-3.

Next Up
The Knights will take on the same Bushnell Beacons tomorrow at 11am and 1pm at Rex Putnam High School in Milwaukee, Oregon.
