Knights Play 20th Ranked SOU Tough

Looking to bounce back after a great effort in a loss last night, Warner Pacific came out ready to play against the 20th ranked team in the nation. After a back and forth first quarter the Knights lead by 1, and in the second they held SOU to just 9 points while jumping out to a 9-point halftime lead. The Knights had their largest lead in the 2nd quarter with a 13-point difference with 4 minutes left in the period. Defense has been a focal point for this Warner Pacific team, and it was evident tonight.

Unfortunately, the offense in the second half couldn't match the defense, and this allowed SOU to get back into the game. The Knights scored just 2 points in the fourth quarter and went on to lose the game 48-40.

"Even though we were short in the end, there were moments that show we're headed in the right direction," Head Coach Jimmy Smith said. "After a day off Sunday, we will get back to work for another road trip and get back on the right path."

Nobody was in double figures for the Knights today but the scoring was very balanced. Ten out the 13 players scored at least a bucket tonight. Teirra Hicks led the way with 9 points that all came in the early stages of the first quarter when she went on quite the run carrying the scoring for the Knights early on. Emily Brown had 7 points to help the cause. Hannah Harris and Laurie Cren each had 5 while Serena Sanchez checked in with 4.

The Knights took the 20th best team in the country down to the wire which was a huge step up from their performance last night. They will look to build upon this momentum next week as they travel to face Northwest and Evergreen.
