Women's basketball started off their season on a high note as they took down Pacific Lutheran University with a final score of 54-45. The Knights started slow, only putting up 18 points in the first half, but due to stellar defense in the third quarter they held PLU and carried out a big second half comeback.
Overall, the Knights shot well making 4 three pointers and were 16-23 at the free throw line. The game was really won however on defense as the Knights secured 33 defensive rebounds and 21 turnovers during the game. Graduate student guard, McKeely Tonkin showed out as she scored 18 points with two threes and secured 7 rebounds. Junior
Skylar Groesbeck, put up numbers as well scoring 16 points with 5 field goals and and 6 defensive rebounds.
"The team response after halftime was exactly what we needed," Head Coach, Jimmy Smith said. "We looked to each other and embraced the challenge and shifted the momentum in the third by the media timeout. A very positive second half to build off of and keep moving forward."
The Knights will continue their road trip next week as they travel down to Redding, California to take on Simpson University. The game will be on Friday, November 15 at 12:30pm in the James M. Grant Center.Â
