Newberg, Ore.| The Knights were in Newberg, Oregon today playing their third and fourth games of the season against the Bruins. They lost game one by a final score of 8-2 and lost game two 15-6.
Game One
Briana Munoz started the first game for the Knights and pitched a solid first three innings only allowing one run on a home run. Unfortunately, as the Bruins turned the lineup over and started to see her for the second time, things unraveled for Munoz giving up 2 runs in the fourth inning and five in the fifth. Munoz finished with a line of 5 innings pitched, giving up 12 hits, 8 runs all earned, 2 strikeouts and 1 hit batter.
The Knights scored their first run of the game in the fourth inning on a single to center field by
Kili Makanani plating
Maddie Gamble who had hit a double the batter before. The second and final run of the game came when
Maddie Gamble hit a sacrifice fly to the center fielder bringing in
Lauren Amesquita from third who singled to start the inning. Amesquita went 2-3 from the dish today with a couple of singles both to centerfield.
Game Two
The second game saw the Knights take a 3-2 lead before the game went to a different place.
Rachel Behn started the scoring for the Knights in the second inning doubling to right field scoring both
Kylie Lester and
Kili Makanani. This tied the game at 2 after the Bruins went out to an early 2-0 lead in the first. The Knights continued their momentum in the second inning taking the lead when Jordan Rosario grounded out to first base scoring
Rachel Behn from third who had advanced to third after her double on a wild pitch.
The Bruins offense proved to be too much going forward as they ended up scoring 2 more in their half of the second inning taking the lead back 4-3. The Knights went quiet in their half of the third and then the Bruins showed their muscle scoring 6 runs in the third and 5 more in the fourth to go up 15-3. The Knights fought to stay in the game in the fifth inning scoring 3 runs on 4 hits but it wasn't enough to push the game into the sixth inning.
Kili Makanani got the start on the bump for game two and gave up 9 runs on only 5 hits in just 2.1 innings. Only 5 of those 9 runs were earned. Makanani walked 2 and struck out 2.
Nia Tate came in for relief and pitched a clean frame.
Abby Carlson came in to finish the game for the Knights giving up the final 6 runs on 5 hits. Only 5 of the runs off of Carlson were earned.
