Knights Play Well Get Walked Off in Extras

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – March 8th, 2024

Vancouver, BC.| The Knights day started with a little delay due to rain pushing today's games against the University of British Columbia back almost a couple hours.

Game One
The game might've been pushed back a little bit due to rain but it was well worth the wait. The game was a barn-burner with both teams trading the lead back and forth with great offense on both sides. The Knights came out strong scoring 3 runs in the first inning with the big hit coming from Kili Makanani hitting a two run opposite field home run to the bullpen in right field. Briana Munoz started the scoring with a double of her own right before Makanani hit her dinger. The Thunderbirds fought back scoring 2 runs of their own in the first inning. The Knights added to their lead in the third inning when a wild pitch brought in a run and which was then followed by a throwing error which brought in another run due to heads up base running by Makanani.

UBC scored 3 more runs in the fourth to knot the score up at 5 and then proceeded to score another run in the fifth to give the Thunderbirds their first lead of the day. The Knights then showed major resilience tying the game up again in the sixth when Jordyn Rosario made contact and hustled to first forcing an error from the Thunderbirds scoring Mailli Bode. The Knights continued to rally in the seventh when they took the lead on a huge clutch single to left field off the bat of Nikki O'Reilly scoring Kylie Lester.

Unfortunately the Thunderbirds were able to scrape a run across in the bottom of the seventh to tie up the match with two outs. The Knights were able to get the final out and send the game into extra innings. In the Knights portion of the eighth, they managed to get a runner to third base but couldn't manage to drive the run in. The Thunderbirds however were able to push a run across on a double crushed to the wall in right center field to end the game.

The Knights scored 7 runs on 10 hits compared to 8 runs on 16 hits for the Thunderbirds.

Game Two
The second game between the Knights and the Thunderbirds was canceled due to the impending bad weather that is going to plague the Vancouver, BC area this this evening through this weekend.
