Knights Play Great Lose Two to #4 Oregon Tech

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – April 12th, 2024

Klamath Falls, Ore.| The Knights played games one and two of their four game series against Oregon Tech who is the fourth ranked team in the nation.

Game One
The Knights played very well against one of the best teams in the country losing game one by a final score of 4-2. The Knights scored the first run of the game for both teams early in the game in just the first inning. Jordyn Rosario continues to swing a hot bat singling to leadoff the game. After a strikeout, a Maddie Gamble walk, and another strikeout, Kili Makanani came to the dish and served up a a tasty double down the right field line plating Rosario and giving the Knights a confidence building 1-0 lead over the Owls.

The Knights would hold that lead until the third inning when the great bats for the Owls strung together four hits in the inning plating three runs. In the fourth inning, the Owls scored one more giving them a 4-1 lead. The Knights earned their second run of the game on a fielding error on a ball put in play by Nikki O'Reilly.

Abby Carlson pitched the full game and pitched extremely well especially considering who the team in the opposing dugout was. Carlson gave up the four runs on nine hits all earned. She struck out one and walked three. Carlson was helped a couple times by her defense that really had her back. Lauren Amesquita had a huge catch in centerfield that robbed a double. That catch proved huge as the next batter hit a double that would've scored that run. Later in the game Nikki O'Reilly caught a screaming line drive at third with a runner in scoring position that saved another run from coming across.

Game Two
The Knights in game two continued to play very well and had a chance to win late but ultimately fell by a final score of 5-4 to Owls. The Knights scored their first run in the first inning on a groundout put in play by Gamble which allowed Rosario to score. Just like in the first game, the Knights held a 1-0 lead through the first inning. The Owls flexed their muscles scoring two runs in both the second and the third innings to give them a 4-1 lead. The Knights fought back though in the fifth scoring two of their own. A Gamble sacrifice fly brought in one and a Briana Munoz ringing double brought in the other cutting the lead to 4-3. The Owls added a very important insurance run in the sixth which proved to be extremely important.

The Knights made things extremely entertaining in the seventh. Gamble led off with a walk and then after a strikeout, Makanani got hit by a pitch giving the Knights runners at first and second. Nikki O'Reilly then came up in a huge way doubling to right field scoring Gamble making it a one run ballgame. Unfortunately, the magic ended there with two strikeouts to end the game.

The Knights played two very impressive games against one of the best teams in the country today.
