FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – April 13
th, 2024
Klamath Falls, Ore.| The Knights played games three and four against fourth ranked, Oregon Tech today once again at John and Lois Stilwell Stadium.
Game One
The Owls of Oregon Tech showed why they are one of the favorites to win the National Championship this season beating the Knights 13-0 in five innings behind a great pitching performance from Owls pitcher, Kacie Schmidt. Schmidt who struck out a career high 13 batters yesterday, came back out today and struck out five more Knights and gave up just one hit.
Jovita Laloulu had the one hit for the Knights which came in the third inning in the form of a single to left field.
The Owls were very efficient scoring their 13 runs on 13 hits. Five of those 13 runs for the Owls were unearned due to four errors from the Knights defense.
Abby Carlson got the start going 2.2 innings giving up seven runs all earned on nine hits.
Briana Munoz came on in relief and pitched .1 innings giving up five runs in which none of them were earned on three hits striking out two.
Nia Tate came in and pitched the last frame allowing one earned run on one hit and walked one batter.
Game Two
In the fourth non-conference game of the series against the Owls, the Knights played much more like they had been playing in the first two games of the series. The Knights just like both games yesterday took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. The first two batters for the Knights produced outs giving the Knights the opportunity to produce a two out rally and rally they did.
Kili Makanani doubled down the left field line and then advanced to third on a passed ball the very next batter.
Briana Munoz came up clutch with a base hit to right field plating Makanani. The Owls tied things up in their half of the first inning. After a clean sheet second inning for both teams, Oregon Tech scored two more runs in the third inning earning them a 3-1 lead. The Knights scored a run in the fifth inning tightening the score to 3-2.
The Knights worked into a bases loaded situation with two outs later in that inning and then calamity struck quite literally. Lightning was seen in the area within the distance that creates a situation that automatically calls for a 30-minute delay with a timer that starts after the last lightning strike is seen. A few lightning strikes and golf ball sized hail later, the game resumed after a 56-minute delay. Unfortunately, the Knights weren't able to get another run across in that inning.
The Knights had eight hits in this game led by
Jordyn Rosario,
Kili Makanani, and
Briana Munoz who each had two hits.
Mailli Bode and
Nikki O'Reilly each had a hit as well to help the cause.
Kili Makanani pitched the full game for the Knights and pitched well giving up four runs all of which were earned.
