Wilsonville, Ore.| The Knights played the first two games of their final home series of the season today against Corban University and it was a tale of two games on a gorgeous day at Wilsonville High School.
Game One
The Knights in game one had their best game of the year beating the Warriors 8-0. The Knights scored the first run of the game for both sides in their half of the first inning on a sacrifice fly hit in by
Briana Munoz. The second run of the game was scored in the third inning when
Maddie Gamble hit into a fielder's choice and an error by the third baseman brought in
Mailli Bode from second.
The fourth inning is when things really went the way of the Knights.
Kili Makanani led off with a walk followed by another walk by
Nia Tate.
Lauren Amesquita then hit pay-dirt hitting a single to center field driving in Makanani. After a Warriors pitching change,
Taylor Groza kept things going with a single scoring both Amesquita and Tate.
Jordyn Rosario then reached on an error. After a
Mailli Bode walk,
Maddie Gamble blew the game wide open with a double down the left field line scoring both Rosario and Groza making the score 7-0.
Briana Munoz then capped off the inning reaching on a fielder's choice allowing Bode to score making the score 8-0 in favor of the good guys.
The knights in the game only had five hits but they were all very timely and they also took major advantage of each of the four errors the Warriors committed.
Abby Carlson pitched the full game for the Knights and she owned the Warriors in every way. Over the five innings pitched, she only gave up three hits striking out five and not giving up a single walk. Carlson was in control of the zone the entire game and dictated the way the Warriors approached each at-bat.
Game Two
The second game didn't go the way of the Knights as they lost by a final score of 12-1. The Warriors scored their 12 runs on 15 hits and were aided by five errors from the Knights.
Briana Munoz got the ball to start the game and went a third of an inning giving up five runs all earned on five hits.
Nia Tate came on in relief and got the last two outs in the first inning giving up four runs on five hits with only three of those runs being earned.
Abby Carlson came in to pitch the final four innings of the game and gave up three runs on five hits with only two of those runs being earned.
The one run for the Knights came in the first inning when
Briana Munoz continued to swing a hot bat stroking a double to left center-field plating
Maddie Gamble from second who reached the batter before on a error. The Knights had five hits on the day.
Jordyn Rosario,
Mailli Bode,
Maddie Gamble,
Briana Munoz, and
Lauren Amesquita each picked up hits today.
