Portland, Ore.| The Warner Pacific women's basketball squad was unable to pull off the upset victory against the Oregon Tech Owls, falling 94-58.Â
The first half was the Owls all the way as they led 50-24 at half. The second half went the way of the Owls once again as they made 44 points in the second half to secure the victory over the Knights.
As a team, the Knights struggled all around shooting 38% from the field and 26% from three. Free throws were the Knights best percentage but they still saw low numbers making 12 of their 19 attempts during the game. On the defensive side the Knights saw some light creating 14 turnovers and 17 of their points off of the turnovers. They also had 31 rebounds, ten of which were offensive.
"As a staff, we felt like we had moments of solid play," Jimmy Smith said. "The third and first quarter specifically we felt were solid. We will look to continue building forward tomorrow against a very tough SOU (Southern Oregon) team."
On an individual level, McKeeley Tonkin knocked in 14 points to lead the Knights. She was followed by Senior Alexa Mee who had 12 with eight rebounds and two blocks. Off the bench, Senior Emily Fortin was able to put up eight which led the bench and helped keep the Knights afloat.Â
Next Up
The Knights play again tomorrow 3pm. They will take on the Southern Oregon University Raiders who have beat the Knights in their last seven match-ups. The Knights will then hit the road traveling to La Grande, Oregon to play Eastern Oregon University at 5:30pm.
