FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - January 3rd, 2024
Portland, Ore.|Â Following their double overtime win against Multnomah, the Warner Pacific Knights Women's Basketball team kept the winning streak alive as they took down Walla Walla University 66-56. The Knights led the entire game, putting up 23 points in the first quarter and never looking back. At half they led 35-23 and managed to keep their foot on the gas and score 31 in the second half and keep the Wolves at bay.
As a team, the Knights looked strong to start the new year. They shot just under 50% from the field and 72% from the line. This let the Knights score 16 free points from the charity stripe. The team was also able to get down and dirty scoring 15 points off of turnovers and six second chance points. These were thanks to stellar defensive stats as they totaled up 39 rebounds, two blocks, five steals and 14 turnovers. Overall, the team is making big strides in the new year as all but two players scored and all players made big defensive contributions to the overall win.
Individually, two players put up double digit points. The first is Senior
Emily Fortin who had 12 points with two three pointers. The second is Junior
Paityn Rhode who had 12 as well along with four rebounds. The Knights bench also played well as they accounted for 27 of the Knights 66 points and 18 of the Knights 39 rebounds.
"The first quarter was huge tonight for us," Jimmy Smith said. "We started the game with great energy and controlled the tempo and pace. We will enjoy this win and keep moving forward."
