Portland, Ore.| The Warner Pacific Women's basketball team a win today in their first home game of the season against Pacific Lutheran University. The final score for tonight's game was 78-65.
Warner Pacific came out hot today in the win. Bryten Gumke led with her smooth shooting dropping 20 points going 7-14 from the field including four from deep. The Knights shot a season high 46.9% overall in the win. Kayla Kasubuchi added her own 11 points with Alex Saunders helping out with 8 of her own.
Pacific Lutheran fought hard and held their own, especially with three players finishing with 13 points. They opened strong, shooting over 52% in the first quarter and shooting a pair of threes. However, as the game went on PLU struggled to keep pace from beyond the arc, going 0-3 in both the second and fourth quarters.
"I think tonight there was one thing that really stood out," Head Coach Jimmy Smith said. "When the team in all facets has energy and plays for each other, great things can happen. Looking at a stat sheet and seeing a plus/minus positive on assists to turnovers is huge. Having multiple players in double figures and everyone buying into team defense in the fourth to finish out the game was huge. It's a great feeling going into a short break and we will look to keep building forward."
