KJ Custer Scores 25 in Big Win Against Simpson

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – December 13th, 2025

Portland, Ore.| The Warner Pacific Women's basketball team had a rematch against Simpson University this evening and with a strong second half, took the win this time with a 83-72 win.

Despite the loss, Simpson had some good spots with Destiny Nichols' 20 points and Cerina Nguyen's 18 while Anna Marshall added 15 points including seven rebounds. The Red Hawks struggled from beyond the arc today going 6-15, which allowed the Knights to take advantage of this opportunity.

The Knights took control in the second half, leaning on shooting from deep and good pace on both offense and defense. KJ Custer led the way with 25 points draining six three-pointers while Skylar Groesbeck and Shielteal Watah each contributed 13 points. It was Watah's first action of the season for the Knights. Warner Pacific sealed the game at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, converting 12-15 attempts to close out the game.

"Tonight, I thought we found the right teammate at the right time," Head Coach Jimmy Smith said. "We had a few stints throughout the game where the ball was moving with pace and tempo that positively put players in positions to be successful. I'm happy to get this win as a team with five players in double digits and 50 rebounds. We will enjoy our win and get ready for Walla Walla on Thursday."
