Portland, Ore.| The Warner Pacific Women's basketball team had their first conference match versus Corban. They would fall short final score of 75-48
Corban controlled the game early and didn't let up. The Warriors established their lead early, taking a 19–17 lead after the first quarter and steadily widened the gap as the game progressed. Tori Younker led all scorers with 21 points on an efficient 9-16 shooting night while grabbing eight rebounds. Emilia Bishop scored 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting and Jenna Albrecht added nine. The Warriors shot over 63% in the third quarter, using that to carry them to the win. Even with them struggling from distance, they made it up with their excellent free-throw shooting.
Warner Pacific was led by
Riley Layton, who put together a strong 17-point outing with an impressive 9-11 performance at the free-throw line.
KJ Custer added nine points, while
Skylar Groesbeck contributed seven and grabbed eight rebounds. However, WPU struggled from the field especially in the fourth quarter, shooting just 1-13 which stopped any chance of a comeback.
"Even in defeat, you have to find positives," Head Coach Jimmy Smith said. "The sun comes up tomorrow just like it did today. If we allow ourselves to dwell on the past, we will never take time to move forward. Corban is a good team and credit to them. We will take some of our positives and prepare for Bushnell Saturday."
