Knights Split The Day Against the Loggers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - February 9th, 2025

Tacoma, Wash.| The Knights Softball squad split their first two games of the season against the University of Puget Sound Loggers. The first the Knights won with a score of 5-3 and the second they lost with a score of 7-3.

Game One
The win in game one was thanks to a big third inning where the Knights scored all their runs. Freshman Hailey Ferguson scored the first run of the Knights season, thanks to a single by Junior Ashley Fritz. To continue the scoring in the third inning, the Knights saw a triple from Jordyn Rosario and a two run home run by Junior Kili Makanani. Both Rosario and Makanani have continued where they left off last season. Last year Rosario batted .339 with 127 trips to the dish and continued that today going 3-4 which included that triple. Makanani last season hit two home runs including one in the second to last game of the season against Bushnell so getting her going this early in the season this year can only mean good things for the Knights.

As a team the Knights racked up only three hits but it was enough for the win. They also had eight walks, and four stolen bases. On the mound, Makanani went all seven innings, racking up eight strikeouts, two walks and her first win of the season.

This win marked the first win for the Knights against a Northwest Conference opponent in three years.

Game Two
Game two sadly did not go in the way of the Knights and had to be cut short due to a shortage of lighting at the field. However, many positives shined through. As a team the Knights had zero errors, eight hits, two doubles and a home run. They also kept the run game alive, stealing another two bases during the game.

Individually, the Knights were led by Jordyn Rosario who had two hits and an RBI while Sophomore Niki O'Reilly had her first home run of the year. On the mound, Sophomore Nia Tate came in relief and put up four strikeouts with only one walk.

Next Up
The Knights will take the week off before playing four games next weekend. The first two will be at Lewis & Clark College on Saturday February 15th. The first game is set to start at 12pm and the second at 2pm. The second two games of the weekend will be at 12pm and 2pm on Sunday, February 16th when the Knights travel to Willamette University to take on the Bearcats.
