Monmouth, Ore.| In a midweek double header battle against NCAAÂ Division Two Western Oregon University, Knights Softball played two very close games losing the first and taking the second.
The first game resulted in a Knight's loss with a score of 4-3 and the second game ended in a Knight's win with a score of 6-4.
Game One
In game one the Knight's gave up a walk off hit to the Wolves in the bottom of the seventh inning. The game started off in favor of Western Oregon with the Wolves putting up two in the bottom of the first. The Knight's took a few innings to answer back but they were able to put up three runs in the fourth inning. Western Oregon answered back in the fifth and the game stayed tied at 3-3 until the bottom of the seventh.
At the plate the Knights were led by Noe Barawis who had two hits on the day. She was aided by Hailey Ferguson who had a hit, but also two RBI's for the Knights. The close game however, is thanks to Kili Makanani who went 6.2 innings in the circle. She struck out five batters and only gave up two earned runs during her outing.
Game Two
Game two gave the Knights their fifth win of the season. Early on in the game the Knights found themselves down, but they were able to battle back, scoring runs in the first and third innings. As the game continued both teams found themselves tied going into the fifth inning at 4-4, but thanks to hits by Hailey Ferguson and Kili Makanani the Knights added two more runs and secured the win.Â
Briana Munoz earned her third win of the season, as she gave up only two earned runs with three strikeouts. Noe Barawis once again led the Knights in hits, but she was not the only one to make an offensive statement. Nikki O'Reilly added another double to her season total and Maddie Gamble added another hit and RBI to hers.
Noe Barawis had another five stolen bases today which was just enough to pass Macy Besuyen for the most stolen bases in program history. Macy Besuyen ended her Knights career with 23 in 2021. Barawis now with today's performance has 24 stolen bases in 24 attempts. There are 24 games left in this season. Keep tuned to see just how many stolen bases Barawis will end up with.
Up Next
The Knights will have a quick turnaround before playing again. The Knights will travel to Eastern Oregon University for a four game series this weekend. The dates and times for these games have changed due to pending weather in the La Grande area. The Knights will play Saturday at 1pm and 3pm and then on Sunday at 11am and 1pm.
