FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - April 12th, 2025
Milwaukie, Ore.| The Warner Pacific Knights Softball squad lost two close games to Oregon Tech who is the second ranked team in the country.
The final score of both games were 5-1 and 4-1 respectively in which both games went the full seven innings.
Game One
The Knights in the first game of the series had a hard time figuring out Owls starter Kacie Schmidt only garnering three hits off of her. Fortunately, the hit was a blast to dead center field by Hailey Ferguson which is her third dinger of the season. It was her first home run in front of the home crowd. At the time it pulled the Knights to within a run at 2-1. Only two of the Owls' runs came off of hits. The other three were off a fielder's choice and a sacrifice fly to right field that coupled with a throwing error plated two.
Kili Makanani pitched the entire game for the Knights and pitched very well especially considering the caliber of offense they were facing. Makanani went the full seven innings giving up eight hits and four runs. Only three of the runs were tagged to Makanani however. Makanani struck out three Owls and walked four as well. Makanani gave the Knights a chance to stay in the game and make it competitive throughout, which is all that you can ask for from a starting pitcher against a highly ranked opponent like Oregon Tech.
Game Two
The Knights in the second game experienced a similar game as the first with not a whole bunch of offense for the good guys and good enough starting pitching to keep the Knights within reach the entire game. The Knights had four hits on the day, one each from Noe Barawis, Maddie Gamble, Briana Munoz, and Nikki O'Reilly. O'Reilly's hit was a double that plated the lone run for the Knights.
Briana Munoz got the start in the circle and went all seven innings giving up four runs in which three were earned. Like Makanani in game one, Munoz gave the Knights a chance to compete.
Next up
The Knights will look to continue fighting hard tomorrow morning on Palm Sunday at 10am and 12pm out at Milwaukie High School against the Oregon Tech Owls.
