Portland, Ore.| The Warner Pacific Knights Men's Soccer team took on Corban University in a rare non-conference match between the two conference foes and won the game 3-1 behind two more goals from Bodo Calderon.
It didn't take long for the Knights to break the ice first when Bodo Calderon sent in a nifty goal from left to right of the goal just passed the diving Corban keeper, Isaac Pureco to put the Knights up 1-0 in the sixth minute. The goal was assisted by a beautiful through pass from
Mario Jauregui-Vallarta. It was his first assist of the year and first as a Knight in his second season. Just a few minutes later in the ninth minute, a foul was called on Corban inside the goalkeeper's box giving the Knights a penalty kick. Bodo Calderon who already had three penalty kicks attempted and made bumped that number up to four on the young season putting the Knights up 2-0 before the ten-minute mark. This goal marked Calderon's sixth goal of the year.
After halftime, Corban fought back by getting a goal of their own sent in by Josue Lomeli and was assisted by Santiago Castano. After the Corban goal, the Warriors applied a ton of pressure and nearly tied the game up a few times. The Knights then were able to bow up and add an insurance goal when
Musa Jatta made it a two-goal game in the 82
nd minute putting the game away for good. The final goal of the game was assisted by
Bryan Jimenez.
The Knights out shot the Warriors tonight with 11 total shots including 6 on goal. The Warriors had seven total shots including four on goal.
Jonathan Flores got the start in goal for the Knights and didn't see a single shot to save.
Jonathan Hernandez started the whole second half and allowed the one goal for Corban and saved two shots. Isaac Pureco started in goal for the Warriors and allowed two goals and saved one shot. Callum Thompson started the whole second half and allowed one goal and saved one shot.
Next Up
The Knights will have a couple days off before they play another non-conference match against NCAA Division III, Linfield University on Monday evening. The contest is scheduled to kickoff at 7:30pm.
