Knights Battle Hard Against #12 LCSC

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – February 6th, 2026

Lewiston, Idaho.| Warner Pacific Knights Women's Basketball played 12th ranked Lewis-Clark State and fought very hard losing in a much closer battle than people would anticipate 72-52.

The Knights had a great defensive first quarter holding the high-powered Warriors to 12 points but only scored 12 points themselves. Matty Woolf had a great first quarter going 2-2 from distance for six points and Riley Layton hit a couple bunnies for four points. The Knights forced three Warriors turnovers in the first quarter holding LCSC to just 5-19 shooting in the period. The second quarter was also a close one as the Warriors won the period 19-15, going 9-17 from the field. The Knights continued in the quarter to play excellent defense keeping the contest very much within reach going into the locker room down 31-27.

Out the locker room, the Warriors officially found themselves offensively scoring 27 points in the period and holding the Knights to 12 points once again. The fourth quarter was a repeat of the first and second quarters with both team's defense playing out of their minds holding each other to less than 15 points for the second quarter of the contest. The third quarter performance for the Knights is what ended up doing the squad in at the P1FCU Activity Center tonight.

Woolf led the way for the Knights, scoring 11 points, making three shots from beyond the arc in three attempts and made all four of her free-throws. Skylar Groesbeck had herself a night scoring eight points and having five assists. Riley Layton and Shielteal Watah both ended with six points apiece.

The Warriors finished with four players in double figures with Sitara Byrd leading the way with 17 points followed by Darian Herring who had a 15 points, 12 rebound double double. Herring added two assists for good measure as well.

"It's not the result we wanted; however, I felt like the attention to detail in the first half was very positive," Head Coach Jimmy Smith said. "If we can provide that focus and sink a few more shots, I am excited for what tomorrow brings us."
