Ellensburg, Wash.| The Warner Pacific Softball team opened their season on the road today against Central Washington University in a non-conference double-header and went on to lose both games by final scores of 14-0 and 10-2 respectively.
Game one
The scoring for game one was all Central Washington. In the first inning, they got started with a 3-run home run to start the game off of starting pitcher Kili Makanani. Followed by a solo shot in the second and another in the third. The Wildcats after that third inning solo home run would see another seven runs cross the plate in the frame. Their scoring would end in the fourth as they capped it off with another two runs to mercy-rule the Knights in five innings.
The Knights struggled all around on offense, only recording four hits and 3 walks, not helping themselves gain momentum to fight against this hot Central Washington offense. The Knights gave up 13 earned runs on seven walks between both their pitchers used today. Kili Makanani gave up 7 through 2.1 innings pitched and Macey Tovar plated six through 1.2 innings in the circle. An item of note, Noe Barawis who stole 55 bases in 55 attempts last season got caught stealing on her first attempt of the year marking it the first time she has been caught in her career as a Knight.
Game Two
The Knights had a sense of urgency going into game two and started scoring the first run on a wild pitch to go up 1-0. Following that,Central Washington would score four runs in the bottom of the first to once again regain control on the game and the series. After a solo home run for the Wildcats in the bottom of the second, the Knights would score again when Megan Fritz connected with an infield bunt base hit, scoring Sofia Cherry. The Wildcats would finish the game off with three runs in the sixth.
The Knights earned two runs on seven hits in this game. The first run on a wild pitch, and the second coming of a bunt from Megan Fritz in the fourth. Along with that run, Noe Barawis contributed two hits to the cause and added a stolen base. Kaylee Pokorny would pitch the majority of the game going five innings giving up nine earned runs and striking out two Wildcats.
Next Up
The Knights will come home and regroup and head to Tacoma, Washington next weekend to face off against Pacific Lutheran University. They will play them at PLU field in a double header with games being scheduled for 11:30am and 1:30pm.
