Klamath Falls, Ore. | The Warner Pacific University women's volleyball team continued its road trip this week with a matchup against Southern Oregon University. The Knights battled throughout the evening but fell to the Raiders in straight sets, 25-11, 25-10, 25-12.
Warner Pacific found it difficult to establish an offensive rhythm in the opening set as Southern Oregon hit .478 behind a balanced attack led by Friley Curtiss.
Tayah-Anne Toa and
Naomi Johnson provided kills for the Knights, but the Raiders were able to create separation and take the opening set, 25-11.
The Knights looked to respond in the second set, generating five kills.
Allison Dorigo and Toa each found the floor, while
Amor Rapoza helped direct the Warner Pacific offense. Southern Oregon, however, continued to apply pressure from the service line and eventually secured the second frame, 25-10.
Warner Pacific turned in its best offensive performance of the match in the third set, recording nine kills as a team. Johnson, Toa and Dorigo helped lead the attack at the net, while the Knights also found success defensively with several key blocks to slow the Raiders' offense. Despite Warner Pacific's improved attack, Southern Oregon responded with 14 kills to close out the match with a 25-12 victory.
Toa led the Knights offensively with five kills while adding two blocks. Johnson followed with four kills and a team-high three blocks, while Dorigo contributed three kills and two blocks.
Rapoza directed the Warner Pacific offense with a team-high 11 assists while also leading the defensive effort with 10 digs.
Daisci Burrows added four assists, while
Mia Carman recorded seven digs along with the Knights' lone service ace.
Maya Moreno contributed six digs from the back row.
As a team, Warner Pacific finished the match with 18 kills, 18 assists, four blocks and 31 digs.
Southern Oregon was led offensively by Curtiss, who finished with a match-high 13 kills. Annie Hite recorded 19 assists, while Hite and Maelle Garon each collected 11 digs. The Raiders finished with 37 kills and a .286 team hitting percentage.
Following the match, Warner Pacific head coach Nerisa Laban highlighted the Knights' effort and energy throughout the contest.
"We fought every set, served well, and played scrappy defense against a tall SOU. We finished with good energy," Laban said.
Next Up
The result moves Warner Pacific to 0-7 on the season. The Knights will look to bounce back when they travel to Kirkland, Washington, on Friday to take on Northwest University. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
