PORTLAND, Ore. –
Alberto Casas scored a goal in the 23rd minute to send Warner Pacific past Corban University in Cascade Conference men's soccer action at a rainy David Douglas HS field.
The sophomore took a through pass from
Josh Wright, took a touch into the danger area and fired near post for the game winning score.
The single goal was all the host Knights needed as the WP defense held Corban without a goal for just the third time this season. Tillerman Kroon had the best chance to equalize in the second period, but his header attempt hit the crossbar and fell behind the net. Knight goalkeeper
Drew Bonifacio snuffed out several other chances from Warrior attackers, including a pair of crucial saves at the end of the game.
Corban outshot the Knights 11-7, and generated three corner kicks compared to two for WP.
The result moves Warner Pacific into 4th place in the CCC at 7-5-1 and in the final playoff position. Corban drops to 6-6-1 in league counters. Both teams have one more game to play; the Knights will host league leaders Concordia next weekend while Corban will face Northwest Christian.
