Knights Open CCC Play with 5-0 Win

Box Score

EUGENE, Ore. – The Warner Pacific men's soccer team won their conference opener on Tuesday night with a 5-0 win over Northwest Christian. The Knights out-shot NCU 23-12.

It didn't take very long for WPC to post the winning goal. A corner kick in the fourth minute of the game dropped into the box directly in front of the right corner. An NCU defender attempted to clear the ball, but instead kicked it into the goal, giving the Knights the 1-0 lead.

Warner Pacific added one more in the first half as Alberto Casas took a pass from Ricky Carmolinga and punched in the score. Carmolinga wasn't finished, adding assists on the next two goals in the second half, just 47 seconds apart. At 66:13, Almir Celebic took the ball on the left side and drilled it into the right side of the net. Then at the 67 minute mark, Carmolinga found Brandon Tatum with a nearly identical slotted pass that also went into the right corner.

The Knights added their final goal in the 74th minute when a Tatum corner kick was one-timed from the top of the box by Scott Schnitzer to Celebic. Celebic put away the goal out of the air. Warner Pacific (2-3, 1-0 CCC) held a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks in the game.

Drew Bonifacio recorded the shutout for WPC as he registered four saves. Dusty Stephens made three saves in goal for NCU in 75 minutes of work. Erik Carrazco came in for the final 15 minutes and also made a save, leaping to punch a 25-yard blast over the crossbar to save the score.
