Knights Falter Versus Evergreen

Alberto Casas
Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. – An own goal by the home team proved to be the difference as Evergreen earned a road win over Warner Pacific 2-1 in Portland tonight.

The host Knights started the game on the front foot and found the back of the net just two minutes into the game. Alberto Casas scored his 5th goal of the season by chesting the ball across the goal line after a corner kick. WP earned four corner kicks in the first 10 minutes of the contest but could not add to their lead.

Evergreen settled down a bit and equalized in the 26th minute. Willie Spurr found the net for his 6th goal of the year, gaining possession in the box and finishing to the left of Knight keeper Dorian Lair.

The game winner for the visiting Geoducks came with two minutes left in the first half and will leave Warner Pacific fuming, as the Knight defense passed the ball into their own net after miscommunication in the back.

The second period was a scoreless affair, with the Knights generating the most chances. Several opportunities with free kicks were not on target, and Almir Celebic had a goal called back for offside.

Evergreen remains unbeaten in CCC play at 4-0 and is 4-3 overall. Warner Pacific fall to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in league contests.
