PORTLAND, Ore.—The Concordia men's basketball team drew within three points of No. 8 Warner Pacific with under four minutes to go, but the Knights responded with 11 straight points down the stretch to close out the Cavs 80-68 on Saturday.

The Knights improve to 18-4 overall and 9-1 in the CCC with the win, while the Cavs drop to 10-10 overall and 4-6 in the CCC with the loss.

The Knights' late run came after Adam Herman, the conference's leading scorer at 24.0 points per game, made a pair of free throws to bring the Cavs within 68-65 with 3:36 left. The Knights' Zac Compton started things with a lay-up on the ensuing possession, then added a three-point play after Herman drew his fifth foul on a late charging call. In addition, Compton stole the ball from Willy Ligon on the Cavs' possession after the three-point play, letting the Knights melt the clock down to 1:14 at which point Stephen Harris drew a foul from the Cavs' Anthony Holton. Harris made one of the two ensuing free throws, putting the Knights up 74-65 as the clock ticked below one minute to play.

It was all about free throws after that with the Knights' Josh Black hitting four straight to ice the game late.

The Knights trailed for all of 24 seconds in the second half on Saturday as they responded to the Cavs' lone second-half lead at 45-43 with a 10-2 run to take the lead back at 53-47.

Concordia got back within two a couple times with under ten minutes to go, but could never quite get over the hump. The Knights did not make things easy on the Cavs, either, as the Knights scored the next time down the floor each of the last four times the Cavs drew within a single possession.

The Knights took their first big lead of the game just before halftime when they scored nine straight points—eight of which came from Doug Thomas—to turn a 27-24 lead into a 36-24 lead with 20 seconds to go in the first half. The Cavs' Ryan Miller hit a three-pointer just before halftime to get the Cavs within nine, but the Knights' run gave them their largest lead of the game up to that point.

Overall, the Knights outshot the Cavs' .483-to-.450, though the Cavs did outrebound the Knights 35-30. The Knights also shot 10-of-23 from beyond the arc in the game and made seven more free throws (14-7) than the Cavs.

Individually, four Knights finished in double figures, led by Ryan Parks who had 16 points off the bench. Besides Parks, Thomas scored 13 points, Harris had 11, while Compton and Coletun Tarr each had 10. Black helped spread the scoring around as he led all players with nine assists in the game, while also contributing nine points himself.
