Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. - Concordia kept pace in the Cascade Conference standings with a 7-1 rout of Warner Pacific at David Douglas High School tonight.
It was a night where all the bounces fell to the visiting Cavaliers (8-3, 5-2 CCC) who were opportunistic in front of the goal and capitalized on every mistake the Knights made.
CU tallied the first goal of the game before 60 seconds were gone from the clock. Michael Chamberlain pounced on a failed clearance in the box and scored from 8 yards away. The Cavaliers added two more goals during the first half, with Chamberlain getting a second and assisting on the third by Septi Danciu.
The host Knights (3-5, 2-4 CCC) surrendered four more goals in the second period as the WP defense had trouble coping with set pieces and pressure from the CU attackers. Ben Culpan deftly one-timed a cross into the net at the 58:11 mark to make the score 4-0, and the Cavs added on three more before the final buzzer. Timur Zhivdze tallied a pair of goals by poaching a poor back pass to the keeper, and cleaning up a misplayed ball in the box. Sam Carmichael added a penalty kick goal in the 82nd minute.
Warner Pacific was able generate several promising opportunities during the run of play, but the chances went begging.
Jameson Jones cracked a bullet from 18 yards in the 72nd minute, but the ball screamed just right of the post.
Alejandro Catalan also came close in the 76th minute, but his volley was inches left of the post. The Knights avoided the shutout thanks to an own goal. Jones lofted a free kick into the mixer at the 65:41 mark that bounced off the back of a CU defender and into the net.
