Box Score
PORTLAND, Ore. - Jameson Jones scored his fifth goal of the season in the 81st minute, giving Warner Pacific a 3-2 win over Oregon Tech today. The result snaps a five-game winless streak for WP.
The contest was a rescheduled game from a rainout earlier in the season, and the host Knights (4-9, 3-8 CCC) came back from a 0-2 deficit to post the victory.
The visiting Owls (5-10, 4-7 CCC) got on the board first with a penalty kick. Ashton Betts converted the try with less than two minutes left in the first half after the Knights committed the foul in the box.
Oregon Tech doubled their lead in the 59th minute. Betts attempted a shot that glanced off the side of his foot and straight to Jackson Wold who scored his second goal of the season from close range.
The game looked to be out of reach for the hard luck Knights, but instead WP looked rejuvenated after conceding the second goal. Ricky Carmolinga pulled one back for the Knights just two minutes later from 8 yards away. The equaizer came at the 76:56 mark, as Edgar Contreras collected a rebounded shot and tapped the ball into the net from four yards away.
The Knights kept pressing with numbers forward, almost recklessly so in search of the win. The risk paid off in the 81st minute. Oregon Tech managed to clear the ball from their penalty area, but only as far as WP's Daniel Ervin at the center circle. Ervin drove the ball back into the danger area to a waiting Jameson Jones who flicked in his fifth goal of the year.
Warner Pacific held on the rest of the way, but OIT's Ashton Betts made Knight keeper Dorian Lair dive to turn away a last gasp shot in the closing minutes.
COMING UP: Warner Pacific will host Northwest tomorrow at 6pm, the final home contest for the Knights in 2013.
