EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University men's basketball team shot 60% from the field in the first half but Warner Pacific College pulled away in the second for a 78-68 victory. The Knights held a 35-21 advantage on the boards which proved to be the difference in a closely fought contest.
Coupled with #1 ranked Eastern Oregon's loss to College of Idaho, the Knights sit a game and a half behind the CCC leading Mountaineers with 3 games to play.
NCU (9-18, 3-12 CCC) shot 49% for the game including a 6-for-19 clip from three-point range. WPC (21-6, 12-3) shot 54% and was 7-for-21 from long range. NCU turned the ball over just 12 times and collected 12 steals off of the Knights 17 giveaways.
Warner Pacific was led by
Doug Thomas (pictured), scoring 19 points on 6-for-12 shooting.
Stephen Harris went 6-for-9 and added a double-double with 16 points and a game-high ten rebounds.
Coletun Tarr added 13 points while
Josh Black led the team with four assists.
NCU had five players score in double-figures, led by 13 apiece from Jordan Buhler and Trevor Parker. Buhler added four steals, three assists and two blocks. Jordan Myers added 12 points, shooting 2-for-3 from three-point range while Travis Pacos and Brody McGowan scored ten points each. Greg Shepard ended the night with six points but led NCU with nine rebounds and five assists.
The Beacons will return to action on Saturday, playing host to Concordia University (14-11, 8-7). Warner Pacific will look to climb to within one game of first place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference as they travel to face Corban University (9-15, 5-10). Both games are set for 7:30 pm tip-offs.
