WP Volleyball Sweeps Evergreen, Qualifies for Post-Season

PORTLAND, Ore. – Warner Pacific swept Evergreen in straight sets tonight on senior night at C.C. Perry Gym, and locked up the 6th and final seed in the 2016 CCC Volleyball Championships
 
The Basics

• Score: Warner Pacific 3, Evergreen 0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-18)
• Records: WPC 11-12 (9-11 CCC), TESC 5-22-7 (4-16 CCC)
• Location: C.C. Perry Gym, Portland, Ore.
• The Short Story:  A three set victory over Evergreen gave WPC a 9-11 mark in conference play and berth in the post-season for the 2nd time under coach Nels Norquist. The Knights ended with an identical league record to Northwest Christian, but advanced thanks to a pair of wins over the Beacons during the regular season. Janessa Mast led WP and all players with 12 kills, and Kealia Rosa contributed 39 assists and three service aces. The visiting Geoducks were paced by 11 kills from Natalie Taylor. The Knights will travel to Northwest University on Tuesday, November 8 for a 7pm clash versus the Eagles.
 
How it Happened

• Though the victory ended up being a comfortable one for WPC, the visiting Geoducks were competitive o all three sets.
• Evergreen marched out to a 13-9 lead in set one and the Knights on their heels.
• The frame turned slowly in WP's favor and the Knights scored eight of the final nine points to win the set 25-19.
• WP ran out to a 12-6 lead in set two, but Evergreen battled back to make the score 15-12 
• Five kills from Janessa Mast spurred the home team toward the needed points, and her final winner sealed the 25-17 win.
• Set three was close from the beginning. TESC threatened to extend the match by taking a 12-11 lead on a kill from Natalie Taylor.
• With Warner Pacific leading 19-18, Kealia Rosa toed the end line and closed out the match with tough serving including an ace.

Notable

Knight seniors Brandy Velasquez, Jourdan Wenzinger, and Janessa White were honored before the match.
