Olympia, Wash. | In unsurprising fashion, Senior
Darbi Pink surpassed the 1,000 career point mark with a deep-three in the fourth quarter of Warner Pacific's overtime loss to The Evergreen State College on Friday night. Pink, the No. 2 All-Time Leader in 3-Point Field Goals, filled the stat line with 25 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. With three regular season games left, Pink has 1,003 career points.
Â
Despite the strong offensive effort put on by Pink, the Knights trailed for the first 35 minutes of the game before taking a one-point lead with 5:39 remaining. From that point on, the game came down to one bucket after another, trading lead for lead.
Â
The Geoducks played well on their home floor, holding a double-digit lead over the Knights for the majority of the contest but as the game came down to the wire, it was a matter of the last second possession. With time winding down,
Courtney Jackson got fouled on the way up to the bucket and converted the old-fashioned three-point play leading the Knights to a two-point lead with 3 minutes remaining.
Â
In the last three minutes of play, there were nine Free-Throw attempts between the two teams. Three straight for Warner Pacific that ultimately gave them yet another two-point lead with just 34 seconds remaining on the clock; sunk by none other than
Darbi Pink. With each second that ticked off the scoreboard, you could sense urgency from TESC and at the 19 second mark, Angela Sikora nailed an off-balance three-pointer to put the Geoducks up by 1. With a timeout and advancement, Coach
Matt Gregg headed to the huddle for one of his specialties; a sideline out of bounds play. This one though, deemed unsuccessful due to tight Geoducks defense.
Â
Off the turnover, the Knights, trailing by one, sent TESC to the line; they converted. With 14 seconds to play, it was a three-point game. Enter, Gregg and his draw-ups, this time for
Courtney Jackson off a double screen up top. The Junior out of Utah drained a 23-footer that ended up being the game-tying bucket to send it into overtime after the Geoducks failed to convert on the last possession.
Â
In overtime, Evergreen started with a 5-0 lead before
Kali Kruger got the Knights on the board with an and-one. The Knights unfortunately went cold in the extra quarter, scoring just four as opposed to the Geouducks 11 that ultimately claimed the victory over Warner Pacific.
Â
The Knights sent the Geoducks to the line 22 times, where they only missed four.
Â
Courtney Jackson finished with 20 points and six rebounds,
Gabriella Bruno with 12 and seven and
Kali Kruger with 11 and four.
Â
Evergreen was led by Trinity Betoney with 26 points and eight rebounds.
Â
The Knights will look for a much needed win over the Eagles of Northwest University on Saturday at 5:30pm in Kirkland.
