Multiple Knights with Top-Ten Finishes at OSU High Performance Meet

Freshman Kynzie DeLeon set a new school record of 38:35.79 seconds in the women's 10,000m at the Oregon State High Performance meet Friday night under rainy skies, breaking the old record of 38:36.50 set by Tiffany Edwards in 2003. DeLeon is now leading the conference in the 10,000m by 27 seconds over the next best performance and is ranked 27th in the nation.

"Kynzie finally got to run in decent conditions, although the field was so fast that in order to run with anyone else, she had to go out quite a bit faster than we had planned and then had to hang on and run the last half by herself, which isn't an ideal way to run a 10K," said Head Coach Randy Dalzell. "If she runs this event at the conference championships, hopefully she gets to run closer to even splits for about a 37:40 race so that she can try to get another good personal best and national qualifying time."

The Run Down
In other events, Indya Price ran a new 2 second personal best of 2:19.35 in the women's 800m, finishing 6th in her heat. That is the #2 all-time mark in the event for WPU and sets her up to compete well in the conference championships in that event.

WPU had two ladies compete in the triple jump at OSU with Brittany Coleman finishing third with a mark of 11.70m (38' 4.25") and Savannah Proske finishing 9th with a mark of 11.04m (36' 2.25").

Jett Pharn-Cromb finished 11th on the men's 100m with a time of 11.07 seconds.

Meanwhile, WPU had other competitors at a meet at Whitworth University in Spokane. Highlights from that meet included freshman Cade Kooch finishing 7th overall in the men's steeplechase with a time of 10:20.38 in his first time running the event, setting him up to compete well in that event at the conference championships. Also, senior Jake Brauchler set a new personal best in the men's shot by placing 5th with a mark of 12.85m(42' 2").

Flash Forward
The Knights have one more meet before they head to their conference championships in LaGrande, OR on May 14 and 15. They will compete at the Portland Twilight meet next Saturday at Lewis and Clark College in Portland.
