PORTLAND | Warner Pacific University Men's Basketball Head Coach
Jamayne Potts announced this afternoon, on June 15
th, the signing of transfer junior forward Oleksandr "Sasha" Lut to the 2022 Men's Basketball recruiting class.
"We are so thrilled to have Sasha with us! I'm proud to say he is our first international recruit (Ukraine) since being hired as the Men's Basketball Head Coach in 2020," Coach Potts said beaming with excitement.
"The first thing that drew me to Sasha was his dynamic personality. He is very humble, personable, and has a positive attitude despite having family and friends over in the Ukraine dealing with such a terrible crisis," Potts continued.
"Sasha will bring more athleticism to our team, has a good basketball IQ, and is a great slasher. We can't wait to get him on campus soon!" Potts shared.
Originally from Kiev, Ukraine, Lut has been pursuing his collegiate career in the United States of America since the fall of 2019, where he was a member of the Men's Basketball team at Eastern University in St. Davids, Pennsylvania. Prior to making the commitment to furthering his education, Lut graduated from Montverde Academy in Montverde, Florida in the spring of 2019.
As a member of the Eagles, Lut appeared in 14 career games donning the maroon and white, averaging just over seven minutes per game and shooting 31.6% from the field.
Following the 2020-21 season, Lut transferred to Los Angeles Valley College to become an integral part of their program. Lut started in 18 of 21 games for the Monarchs in the most recent 2021-22 season, and averaged 21.4 minutes, 39.0 field goal percentage, four and a half rebounds, and just over an assist per game.
Lut will continue his pursuit of a bachelor's degree in Business Administration while at Warner Pacific, and looks to join the WPU Men's Basketball team later this summer in preparation for the 2022-23 season.
