The Knights Beat the Geoducks

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – September 30th, 2023

Olympia, WA | The Knights delivered with a big win today in Olympia, Washington against the Evergreen State College Geoducks by a final score of 2-0.

One of the biggest points of emphasis before the game was being the ones to score the first goal of the game. The Knights were able to do that very early in the game when Gabriel Rincon scored a goal in the 8th minute cleaning up the trash in front of the net. The ball was brought into the box by the Knights and hack and whack time ensued which the Knights were able to capitalize on.

The Knights then clamped up and held the score intact all the way until the 80th minute when Hunter Leach hit a penalty shot from about 15 yards away from the net to put the game on ice. The Knights nearly doubled the Geoducks in total shots having a 15-8 advantage in the match. Shots on goal were more even with the Knights having the advantage 7-5. Jose Ochoa-Delgado was the goalkeeper today for the Knights and he was excellent. The Geoducks pushed numbers late to try and tie the game and had a really good chance at it when a Geoducks striker got passed the Knight defenders. Jose however, wasn't having any of it and ran out to greet the offensive player and put his body on the line diving to grab the ball as the Geoduck player was about to kick the ball. Those are the kind of plays that can make or break a game or even a season.

"Today's win was an important one to keep us moving forward," Head Coach, Troy Ready said. "We were intent on starting the game with more desire and found an important early goal. Throughout the match we were very solid defensively and added a second one to put the game out of reach."
