PARKLAND, Wash. - Warner Pacific scored 13 unanswered points during a 4 1/2-minute stretch of the first half on Tuesday night and went on to beat Pacific Lutheran, 75-53, in the women's basketball home opener for the Lutes in Olson Auditorium.
The Knights never trailed in the game but it was close early. PLU made the score 21-19 when Megan Abdo drained a three-point shot with 8:16 remaining. The Knight defense clamped down at that point and PLU didn't score again until Sarah Barnes hit a jumper with 3:13 left in the period, but by then WP held a 34-21 lead.
Morgan Wolff scored eight points for the Knights during the run.
Warner Pacific led 43-30 at the break, and extended their lead in the second period to as many as 20 on two occasions.
The Knights, now 3-2 for the season, hit 52 percent (26-for-50) from the field, 53 percent from three-point range (8-for-15) and 79 percent from the charity stripe (15-for-19). PLU, meanwhile, converted at a 41 percent race (23-for-56) from the field, 27 percent (4-for-15) from beyond the arc and just 33 percent (3-for-9) from the free throw line.
Wolff had a big game for Warner Pacific with 25 points, including 5-for-8 from three-point land.
Nichole Jackson, who came into the game averaging nine assists, had eight in this one.
Tori Carroll hit all four of her shots for eight points and also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, all of that in a reserve role.
