LEWISTON, Idaho - A 21 point half-time deficit was too much to overcome as Warner Pacific dropped a 79-64 decision to Cal-State San Marcos at the Twin Rivers Physical Therapy Classic today at Lewis-Clark State College.
The Knights trailed 49-28 at the break as CSUM scored at a 48% clip during the period and made 16 of 20 attempts from the free throw line. Cassie Damyanovich led the way with 13 first half points including a trio of three point field goals. In contrast, WPC made 9 of 29 shots and just 1 of 9 from three point range over the first 20 minutes.
The second half was a better performance for Warner Pacific. An improved effort on the defensive end held the high scoring Cougars to 30 points in the half, while WP's shooting picked up to 42%. Courtney Walchli came alive in the second half, hitting all four of her shots and making 3 of 4 tries from the line.
The gap was too much to overcome however, and the Knights fell to 2-3 on the season. Cal State-San Marcos improved to 2-1.
Walchli led the Knights with 15 points, while Janelle Weiss and Ali Campbell added 14 points each. Jacki Cannon grabbed a season high 10 rebounds.
Damyanovich finished with a game high 22 points for the Cougars.
