Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. - Behind 50 percent shooting from the floor, Simpson University picked up a win over Warner Pacific today, 71-67 at C.C. Perry Gym.
The visiting Redhawks (2-1) shot 24 of 47 from the field including a 7 of 14 effort from three point range to defeat the Knights, who drop to 2-2 on the season. WPC suffered the loss despite crashing the boards for 25 offensive rebounds and attempting 28 more shots (26 of 75) than SU for the game.
Warner Pacific scored the first basket of the game and went on to lead the entire first half.
Lacy Wood was fouled on a successful layup attempt and she converted the free throw at the 4:48 mark. The points gave the Knights their largest lead of the game at 37-23 and the home team seemed to be cruising. Simpson turned the tables however, and finished the period with a 13-1 run to make the score 38-36 in favor of WPC at the break.
The teams battled bucket for bucket in the second half, with the score tied three separate times over the 20 minutes of action.
Courtney Walchli scored on a putback to give WP a 55-53 lead with 8:52 to play, but it was the last advantage the Knights would enjoy. Bianca Padilla canned a trey on the ensuing possession, and Simpson never trailed again as the Redhawks held WP at bay with timely field goals. Meanwhile, Warner Pacific went cold down the stretch and while drawing within a single basket with under a minute to play, could not overcome the deficit.
SU's Melanie Jones led all scorers with 18 points including an 8 of 10 effort from the foul line. Esther Wofford and Kaity Hahn added 11 points each.

Jacki Cannon with 12 points each. Walchli and
Ali Campbell each grabbed nine rebounds, while
